Abstract:

Objective: To analyze the hotspots and trends of research on the economic burden of tuberculosis patients at home and abroad from 2010 to 2025, and to provide reference for research in this field. Methods: Relevant Chinese and English literatures published from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2025 in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, Web of Science and PubMed databases were retrieved. CiteSpace software was used to visualize the number of publications, countries (regions), authors, institutions and keywords. Results: A total of 623 Chinese articles and 1891 English articles were included. The annual number of Chinese and English articles increased from 30 and 57 in 2010 to 48 and 142 in 2025, respectively. The top five countries in terms of total number of publications were the United States (517 papers), the United Kingdom (172 papers), South Africa (116 papers), China (107 papers) and India (78 papers). The network analysis of authors and institutions showed that the high-yield authors in China were Wang Lixia (20 papers), Zhang Hui (14 papers), Li Renzhong (12 papers) and so on. The National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention occupied a central position in the Chinese literature, with 31 publications. The foreign high-yield authors were Anna Vassall (24 papers), Knut L?nnroth (20 papers), Robert G·White (18 papers) and so on. The University of London occupied a core position in English-language literature, with 101 publications. Keyword analysis showed that Chinese literature focused on patients and policy issues such as “multidrug-resistant tuberculosis” and “medical insurance”, while English literature focused more on systematic and evaluation methods such as “cost-effectiveness analysis” “catastrophic expenditures” and “health expenditure”. Conclusion: The number of Chinese and English publications is on the rise from 2010 to 2025. The research perspective on the economic burden of tuberculosis patients in the world is becoming more and more comprehensive, from single cost measurement to multi-dimensional assessment of economy, health and policy. In the future, we should strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation, focus on vulnerable groups and promote the transformation of research into policy.
